Bukit Lawang to Kutacane

Our 7 Days/6 Nights trek will take you on a week-long adventure of a lifetime, deep into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park. On your breathtaking journey, from Bukit Lawang to Kutacane, you will trek along the banks of the river, offering you the chance to see animals which inhabit the area including snakes, monitor lizards, wild pigs and porcupine, before slowly climbing to the summit of the mountain.

Itinerary

Day 1. After breakfast, your guides will collect you at 8.30am from your guesthouse and you will start your journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7 hours), your guides will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna you may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, you will continue your trek to see other wildlife (if you’re lucky you may see the Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards) and learn about the trees/plants which can be used in traditional medicine.

Late afternoon-your guides will select a suitable spot next to the river to set-up camp below Mount Jamur Batu or Batu Gajah on the banks of the Landak River, an area of outstanding natural beauty. You are then free to enjoy the river, help prepare dinner or even learn some jungle skills. Before settling down to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and river.

Day 2. Follow the river deep into the jungle, spotting wild animals drinking along the way. Before nightfall, your guides will show you to your camp, where you are free to relax, enjoy a swim or learn a new jungle skill such as building tents ‘jungle style’.

Day 3. After breakfast, your group will trek deeper into the forest, hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the many wild animals known to inhabit the area including the elusive Sumatran tiger, as well as elephants and deer. Camp that night will be at Bekail or Alur Chendep.

Days 4 & 5. After a few days of exploring the tropical rainforest, your group will make camp near the Bekail river, close to a waterfall (approx. 20 metres high) where you will have time to swim, relax and enjoy the stunning views of the forest around you.

Day 6. As you climb to higher altitudes today, trekking will become more challenging. Camp tonight will be on a mossy mountain top with beautiful views. Kick back, relax and take in the fresh air and jungle sounds.

Day 7. On your final day you will trek downhill into the valley, arriving at your final destination of the quaint village of Kutacane.
