Wild Adventure from Bukit Lawang to Kutacane
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime 7-day expedition through the untouched wilderness of Gunung Leuser National Park, following the course of the Bohorok River all the way to Kutacane. This challenging adventure takes you across diverse landscapes, from lowland rainforests home to orangutans and wild elephants, to the mossy jungles at the summit of Mount Perkison.
Along the way, you’ll learn jungle survival skills, sleep under the forest canopy, and discover some of Sumatra’s rarest wildlife and plants.

Day 1 – Bukit Lawang to Mount Uning
Morning trek through cocoa and rubber plantations.
Enter orangutan territory: observe their unique behavior as they swing and forage.
Spot gibbons, hornbills, monitor lizards, and other wildlife.
Evening: Camp by the Landak River at the foot of Mount Uning (310m).

Day 2 – Mount Uning to Kuala Buluh Confluence
Trek along the Bohorok River towards the Kuala Buluh junction.
This area is home to wild elephants.
Set up camp near the river at 470m.

Day 3 – Into the Mid Bohorok River
Continue upriver, crossing untouched lowland forest.
Optional night trek to search for nocturnal wildlife.
Camp beside the Bohorok River at 615m.

Day 4 – Bohorok Tributary Climb
Begin the ascent into higher terrain.
Trek through dense jungle and hidden valleys.
Camp in remote wilderness at 1150m.

Day 5 – To Lau Terkicong Lake
Trek towards Terkicong Lake, a pristine and rarely visited highland lake.
Enter the northern part of Sumatra, approaching Aceh province.
Camp at 1550m.

Day 6 – Summit Near the Aceh Border
Reach the moss forest on Mount Perkison (2100m).
Explore rare orchids and unique high-altitude ecosystems.
Begin descent and camp near the border of North Sumatra and Aceh.

Day 7 – Final Descent to Kutacane
Steep descent through dense jungle and river valleys.
Conclude the trek in Kutacane, deep in the Bukit Barisan mountain range.
Transfer to meeting point by car.

Clothing: Lightweight, quick-drying layers; long sleeves/pants for protection; jacket or fleece for cool nights.
Footwear: Durable shoes with good grip (avoid heavy waterproof boots); sandals/river shoes for camp.
Personal Items: Sunblock, mosquito repellent, toiletries, small towel, first-aid kit, personal medicines.
Gear: Headlamp, dry bags/plastic bags, camera, water bottle (1.5L+).
Optional: Trekking poles, gloves, journal, travel pillow.
