About the Amorphophallus Titanum
The Titan Arum is the world’s largest unbranched flowering plant, known for its striking beauty, massive size, and distinctive scent used to attract pollinating insects.
It blooms only for 3–4 days after nearly nine months of gestation, making each sighting an incredibly rare and unforgettable event.
Batu Katak is one of the few places in the world where you can find both the Rafflesia and the Amorphophallus titanum, side by side in their natural rainforest habitat.

09:00 AM – Departure from Bukit Lawang
Meet your guide after breakfast at your accommodation.
You’ll set off on a scenic 50-minute drive through rural villages, rice fields, and rubber plantations to Batu Katak, a small, eco-conscious community located along the Berkail River — part of the Gunung Leuser National Park buffer zone.
10:00 AM – Jungle Trekking & Flower Exploration
Begin your gentle eco-trek through the rainforest, crossing the river and following forest trails in search of the Amorphophallus titanum and, if you’re lucky, the Rafflesia arnoldii.
Your experienced local guide will share fascinating insights into these giant flowers’ lifecycles, pollination methods, and ecological importance.
Along the way, you may also spot:
Siamangs and gibbons swinging through the canopy
Colorful butterflies and tropical birds
Rare medicinal plants and unique fungi
Even if the flowers are not in bloom, this trek offers incredible opportunities to experience untouched nature and community-based ecotourism.
12:30 PM – Jungle Lunch by the River
enjoy a freshly cooked Indonesian-style lunch (nasi goreng and tropical fruits) served in the jungle or by the riverside.
Take time to relax, listen to the sounds of the forest, and connect with your surroundings.
02:00 PM – River Swim & Relaxation
After lunch, enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear Berkail River or simply unwind on the riverbank.
This peaceful setting perfectly captures the beauty of Sumatra’s natural environment.
04:00–05:00 PM – Return to Bukit Lawang
After a day of exploration and discovery, drive back to Bukit Lawang in the late afternoon — refreshed, inspired, and with a deeper appreciation for Sumatra’s rare and fragile ecosystems.
